Russia Claims “Complete Strategic Initiative” After Seizing 5,000 sq km

Moscow – President Vladimir Putin declared that Moscow holds the “complete strategic initiative” in the war against Ukraine, citing the capture of almost 5,000 square kilometers of territory in 2025. This declaration was made to top military commanders, framing Russia’s position as one of dominant control.

Putin emphasized that this strategic advantage is secure, stating that Ukrainian attempts to strike targets deep within Russia would not succeed in changing the overall situation on the battlefield. His comments were designed to project an image of inevitable Russian progress.

However, the conflict is also being fought on other fronts. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of running a covert intelligence and sabotage campaign using its oil tanker fleet. This allegation suggests a blending of civilian and military operations by Moscow.

Zelenskyy did not mince words, stating Russia was using its tankers for “reconnaissance and even sabotage activities.” He assured the public that Ukraine is working with its international allies to formulate a response, expressing his confidence that these actions can be stopped.

The tense geopolitical climate was further underscored by Putin’s ultimatum to the United States. He warned that if Washington were to supply Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv, it would be considered a severe escalation requiring US military involvement and would result in the destruction of their bilateral relationship.
