President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan in Ankara as Türkiye steps up diplomatic efforts to help end Sudan’s prolonged conflict.

During talks at the Presidential Complex, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and the ongoing war in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 following a power struggle between the military and the Rapid Support Forces. The conflict has triggered widespread violence and plunged the country into a severe humanitarian crisis.

Erdoğan emphasized that the fighting has reached alarming levels, warning of actions amounting to crimes against humanity, particularly in the El-Fasher region. He called for urgent and decisive steps to halt the violence, secure a ceasefire, and revive negotiations.

Reaffirming Türkiye’s position, Erdoğan said Ankara supports Sudan’s peace, stability, and territorial integrity, and will continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people affected by the war. Al-Burhan welcomed Türkiye’s potential role in helping bring the conflict to an end.
