In a world marked by geopolitical tensions and shifting alliances, Turkey and the United States are seeking to rejuvenate their bilateral relations. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the importance of this revitalization during his remarks at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, underscoring the necessity of enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies.
Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes of cooperation between Turkey and the United States on various international issues, particularly in the Middle East. He expressed Turkey’s commitment to strengthening coordination with Washington, suggesting that closer ties could benefit both nations amid ongoing global conflicts and crises. The Turkish President also proposed expanding collaboration in several key sectors, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry.
Further emphasizing Turkey’s robust defense industry, Erdoğan noted the dramatic increase in the country’s annual defense exports, which have surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion. He expressed confidence that Turkey is on the verge of becoming one of the top ten defense exporters worldwide. Additionally, Erdoğan called for the removal of barriers that hinder joint defense production and urged US investors to explore opportunities in Turkey, highlighting a new investment drive supported by competitive incentives.
US Senator Chris Coons also addressed the gathering, underscoring the long-standing partnership between the two countries and the pivotal role of business ties and entrepreneurship in fortifying bilateral relations. The event brought together senior officials and business leaders from both nations, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties.
