Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has received commendations from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after her government set a new record as the longest-serving administration in the history of the Italian Republic. Erdoğan acknowledged Meloni’s achievement, emphasizing the ongoing potential for strengthened cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy.
Meloni’s administration reached a significant milestone, completing 1,413 consecutive days in office. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 1,412 days, which was held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second government between 2001 and 2005. Meloni assumed office in October 2022, becoming Italy’s first female prime minister. Since then, she has cultivated a productive relationship with Erdoğan, engaging in frequent discussions on a range of bilateral and regional topics.
Since Meloni took office, Türkiye and Italy have increasingly collaborated in areas such as trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration. The two nations have also coordinated efforts on regional issues, including the situations in Libya and Ukraine. Their diplomatic engagement culminated in the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit, which took place in Rome in April 2025. During the summit, several agreements were signed to enhance the strategic and economic partnership between the two countries.
The rapport between Erdoğan and Meloni was further evidenced by their recent meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara in July. During this encounter, both leaders reaffirmed their commitments to boosting mutual trade, increasing investment, and enhancing cooperation in defense and other strategic sectors. These developments underscore the growing synergy and the strategic alignment between Türkiye and Italy under Meloni’s leadership.
