At a diplomatic meeting in Istanbul, eight nations, including Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy, collectively warned against the potential escalation of military action against Iran. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized that such actions could exacerbate regional instability and called for diplomacy and dialogue as the primary methods for resolving the crisis.

The gathering focused on the growing instability in the Middle East and the global ramifications of ongoing conflicts. The participating countries expressed concern that renewed military aggression could widen the conflict rather than alleviate tensions, and they underscored the importance of preventing war from spreading further throughout the region, including efforts to end hostilities in both the Gulf area and Ukraine.

Discussions also touched on the role of Israel in regional tensions, as well as security issues affecting critical maritime routes such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Any disruptions to these strategic channels could significantly impact international trade and energy markets.

Fidan highlighted the economic and financial pressures that conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine are placing on countries worldwide, stressing the need for international cooperation and effective diplomatic strategies to avert further damage and foster peace.

In addition, Fidan mentioned that Türkiye is in talks with Egypt to address concerns over Ankara’s maritime agreement with Libya. He expressed optimism for progress in reconciling Libya’s rival factions, aiming to bring the eastern and western parts of the country closer together.
