In a significant financial development, Türkiye’s central bank reserves have reportedly surged by approximately $40 billion since the latter part of June, marking their peak in nearly five months. The reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) are believed to have grown by $5.3 billion in the week ending August 21, reaching an estimated total of $188.8 billion. This is a notable increase from the previous week’s total of $183.5 billion.
This upward trajectory follows a period of decline earlier in the summer when the reserves dropped to about $149.2 billion by June 26. However, a robust recovery phase ensued, with the reserves reaching $164.4 billion by the close of July, and this upward momentum has persisted throughout August.
As of the most recent estimates, the reserves have climbed approximately $39.6 billion above their June low, representing the highest level since March 13. The substantial recovery highlights a significant rebound in Türkiye’s financial standing over the past few months.
While these figures are estimates, the official data for the week concluding on August 21 is anticipated to be released on Thursday, offering more concrete insights into the central bank’s financial status.
