In a significant achievement for Türkiye’s defense sector, the nation’s defense and aerospace exports have surpassed $11 billion over a rolling 12-month period for the first time. This milestone highlights the rapid growth of Türkiye’s defense industry and its increasing prominence on the global stage.
Official data from the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB) revealed that exports for June alone amounted to $802.8 million, marking a substantial 29.6% rise compared to the same period last year. Throughout the first six months of the year, Türkiye’s defense and aerospace exports reached $4.67 billion, reflecting an impressive 29.5% year-on-year growth.
SSB President Haluk Görgün attributed this upward trajectory to a growing global demand for Turkish defense products. He emphasized the effectiveness of these systems in real-world operations, which has been pivotal in fostering long-term international partnerships. This expansion of Türkiye’s defense manufacturing capacity has been a key factor in the country’s rising export figures.
Over the last two decades, Türkiye has made significant strides in bolstering its domestic defense industry, aiming to decrease its dependency on foreign military equipment. This strategic move has not only enhanced national security but has also positioned Türkiye as a notable player in the international defense market. Currently, the country exports over 230 different defense products to 185 nations worldwide.
Looking ahead, Türkiye aspires to solidify its standing among the top 10 defense exporters globally. This ambition underscores the country’s commitment to further expanding its defense capabilities and continuing to play a vital role in the global defense sector.
