Erdoğan and Bahçeli Discuss Terror-Free Türkiye Initiative and Constitutional Reforms

by admin477351

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a meeting with Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli at the Presidential Complex in Ankara on Tuesday. The discussions focused on Türkiye’s initiative to become “terror-free” and ongoing constitutional reform efforts.

The “terror-free Türkiye” initiative, launched in 2024, seeks to end terrorism in the country. This initiative gained momentum when imprisoned PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan urged the group to disarm in February 2025, leading to a disarmament process. The Turkish government is now contemplating legal measures to support this process, potentially offering leniency to PKK members not implicated in terrorist activities.

In addition to domestic issues, regional developments were on the agenda. This included the Türkiye-Libya maritime boundary agreement, which recently received approval from Libya’s House of Representatives. Other topics potentially discussed were the Mecca motion, which is expected to be presented to Parliament, and the Badr Memorandum.

The meeting marked the fourth time this year that Erdoğan and Bahçeli have convened for discussions, with previous meetings having taken place on January 21, April 30, and August 26.
