With an Eye on Trump, Zelensky Says US Holds Key to Ukrainian Peace

by admin477351

President Volodymyr Zelensky has placed the responsibility for ending the war in Ukraine squarely on the shoulders of the United States, following what he termed President Donald Trump’s “success” in brokering a Gaza peace deal. Zelensky’s recent comments constitute a direct appeal for Washington to apply its diplomatic might to the conflict in Eastern Europe.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ukrainian leader expressed his belief that the conclusion of the war in the Middle East has created a unique opportunity. “The war in Europe can also be brought to an end, and for that, the leadership of both the United States and other partners is of utmost importance,” he declared, setting high expectations for American intervention.

Zelensky is clearly trying to build on a positive relationship with the US administration, having recently spoken with Trump by phone to congratulate him. He mentioned having a “corresponding vision” for how the US could act, suggesting a plan is ready to be presented. His coordination with allies like Finnish President Alex Stubb further solidifies this diplomatic push.

Despite the hopeful tone of his diplomatic messaging, Zelensky did not shy away from describing the horrific reality of the war. He detailed Russia’s continued attacks, including a devastating strike on a Kharkiv hospital that wounded 57 civilians and damaged critical energy infrastructure across the country.

This stark contrast between peace aspirations and battlefield realities forms the crux of his argument. Zelensky’s urgent request for more air defense systems is presented as the essential tool needed to protect civilians and force Russia to the negotiating table, embodying his “peace through strength” philosophy.
