In a statement on Tuesday, the Ukrainian leader expressed his belief that the conclusion of the war in the Middle East has created a unique opportunity. “The war in Europe can also be brought to an end, and for that, the leadership of both the United States and other partners is of utmost importance,” he declared, setting high expectations for American intervention.
Zelensky is clearly trying to build on a positive relationship with the US administration, having recently spoken with Trump by phone to congratulate him. He detailed Russia’s continued attacks, including a devastating strike on a Kharkiv hospital that wounded 57 civilians and damaged critical energy infrastructure across the country.
